Those who got a seat in the hostels are happy but some whose application got not accepted continue to be deeply upset as they have no other option than to pay more and reside in rented places close to the university in Jamia.

University hostels, which were closed for years starting from Covid lockdown, will open from first week of February.

The opening of hostels means that many landlords in Okhla who have been accused of fleecing students will now have to look for new tenants. While reaction to the OT video, one user wrote: “Now, these landlords will rent their flats on old rate. When hostels were closed, the landlords had hiked the rent.”

Another YouTuber user by the name nord wrote: “Okhla’s flat owners and brokers had increased the rent for 3BHK from Rs 15K to Rs 25K which was injustice.”

When the university was opened after Covid lockdown was over and situation has improved with cases decreasing, many parents had complained about spending huge amount of money on rent sans no facilities.
