Grand Mufti from Egypt gets rousing welcome in Jamia

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) welcomed Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, Grand Mufti of Arab Republic of Egypt to JMI. He is visiting India under the Distinguished Visitors Program of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor expressed her desire to forge collaboration with premier institutions in Egypt and in particular Al-Azhar University to promote faculty exchange, student exchange, joint-research and joint-conferences. The Vice Chancellor spoke about the significance of the position of Grand Mufti throughout the Arab and Islamic world and religious authority associated with his office.

The Grand Mufti thanked the Vice Chancellor for welcoming him to JMI and expressed his desire to facilitate collaboration between institutions of Egypt and JMI for promoting religious and cultural diversity and fostering international understanding.

Prof. Mohammad Ishaque, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Languages, JMI, faculty members of Departments of Islamic Studies and Arabic talked about the academic work being carried out in the departments in respect of teaching and research.
