This Batla House activist Shariq breathes life into Covid patients, provides O2 free

It was 15 days ago, Sanu was a worried youth as his father Covid test was positive and his oxygen level was dipping after a few days. His biggest challenge was how to lay hands on oxygen cylinder. Since morning of that day he was moving around places in Delhi with little success until he got a phone from his well wisher that oxygen is available in Batla House.

Sanu immediately contacted a local man who put him in touch with Batla House activist Sharique Husain, whom many are calling oxygen man of Okhla.

Sanu rushed from CP to reach Batla House as soon as possible with his small oxygen cylinder, he said, adding that there was a huge rush at Sharique’s place, however, he refilled the cylinder half for free.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Sanu rushed to his flat in Abul Fazal Enclave, to give oxygen to his ailing father. They family was delighted as they got a ray of hope for their father.

This is not one story about Sharique. Many posts and videos have surfaced on the social media showing how Sharique has helped people breathe easy during pandemic time.

Sharique’s timeline is full of photos and videos in which he can be seen helping residents with oxygen. On April 26, he wrote in Hindi: “Today … people got oxygen refilled. Majority among them were from Jamia Nagar and rest from other places of Delhi.”

How many people he has helped is not known, but a Hindi daily ran a story on him saying he helped more than 1,000 people.

A journalist on his timeline wrote that on an average he is refilling 400-500 oxygen cylinders free of cost, a claim which the OT could not verify independently.

Since Delhi faced oxygen crisis, many Okhla activists have come forward to claim that they are helping Covid patients in need of oxygen.
