Okhla-based activist Shama Khan has been awarded the “Community Service Award 2019” by the Delhi Minorities Commission and was felicitated by its chairman Dr Zafarul Islam Khan very recently.

The programme was held at Vikas Bhawan, Delhi.

Shama told OT over phone that the award is an achievement for her as her work has got recognition.

Awards are given in 14 categories, of which Shama was selected for the third category: “Community Service Award 2019”.

Shama said for years she has been working in slum areas, providing free education to the underprivileged children.

Shama said her work is also connected to the women of society as her NGO (Institute of Learning Mania) helps the helpless.

Shama said during lockdown she provided ration kits and pledged to continue with her work to uplift the deprived.
