SDMC deploys 80 auto tippers to lift bio-medical waste from homes of Covid patients: Mayor Anamika

 Mayor Anamika today said the SDMC has taken additional measures to lift bio-medical waste and municipal solid waste (MSW) from the homes of Covid positive patients.

A total of 80 auto tippers have been deployed especially for this work, it said.

Nearly 250 kilograms bio-medical waste and nearly 200 metric tonnes of MSW have been lifted till Sunday from homes where Covid patients are at isolation, it said.

The Mayor said with the help of 80 auto tippers, nearly 20 kilograms bio-medical waste and 20 metric tonnes MSW is being lifted from Covid affected homes every day.

She said garbage is being lifted by adopting all safety precautions and its disposal is being done properly.

“Waste removed is being collected at a dedicated centre and then it is being sent at Okhla waste-to-energy plant for incineration. Staff/Safai Sainiks deployed for this work have been taking all precautions. They have been wearing PPE kits so they could not get affected with Covid virus. They are also going through medical check up and are being made aware about safety norms,” she said.

The Mayor said massive sanitisation drive is being carried out in all four zones.

“Mainly containment zones, quarantine/isolation centres, Covid testing centres, hospitals, etc are being sanitised. 15 tankers and 10 jetting machines are being used for this purpose. Corporation is aiming to ensure proper sanitization and sanitation of its area especially homes where Covid positive patients are at isolation,” it said.
