The clinic was inaugurated by Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan who also shared photos of the events on his timeline and wrote: “ओखला विधानसभा क्षेत्र के नूर नगर सर्वोदय विद्यालय में दिल्ली सरकार द्वारा मोहल्ला क्लिनिक की तर्ज पर बनाए गए स्कूल क्लिनिक का उद्धाटन किया और साथ ही स्कूल में बन रही नई बिल्डिंग का निरीक्षण किया।”

For the time being it will work as temporary vaccination centres after the Delhi Education Department’s order.

The health clinics in schools are part of a new Delhi government project along the lines of its flagship mohalla clinics, but exclusively meant for the students of that particular school and will be operational during school hours, reported IE.

Of the 20 schools identified for the pilot project, the clinics began functioning in 10 from January 12 and in the rest from January 17.

“The Departments of Health and Education are coming together to synergise and expand their horizons to provide physical and mental health services to children through School Health Clinics in government schools of NCT of Delhi. This becomes more important specially during Covid, when students are not able to intermingle… Along with providing routine checkups, the clinic will also focus on the emotional wellbeing of the students, address issues related to their mental health, and offer counselling too,” read the communication from the education department to the heads of the schools concerned, reported IE.

Each school health clinic will be staffed with one ‘School Health Clinic Assistant’ or nurse, one psychologist, and one multi task worker. One doctor will be available for every five clinics, and will visit each once a week.
