Al Shifa consultant Dr Sajad among 5 hurt in road accident after DTC cluster bus hits 5 vehicles near Jamia, 1 dead

One person died and five others sustained injuries after a DTC cluster bus going towards Maharani Bagh lost control and hit five vehicles near Masih Garh Chowk in New Friends Colony area today at 4.45 pm.

Among those injured and hospitalised one person is Dr Sajad Ul Islam Mir. It is understood that he was on an auto which was also hit in the accident. It couldn’t be confirmed whether he was on the same auto whose driver was brought dead in the hospital according to media reports.

Sharing about the development, Abul Fazal Enclave-based Al Shifa Hospital management said: “There is sad news that our consultant Dr Sajad, Endocrinology department, met with an accident nearby by Jamia Millia Islamia. He was in the auto. His legs’ both bones are fractured and he has sustained head injuries. He has been shifted from Holy Family Hospital to Jamia Hamdard. Please pray for his early recovery.”

Four others injured are Md Saghir, Kalimuddin and Tahseen, said police.

As the report of the incident surfaced on the social media there was confusion in the locality as where the accident took place with information very sketchy. It was only later on known that the accident took place close Julaina which is close to Jamia Millia.

A senior police officer said: “A PCR call was received regarding the accident, following which a police team was rushed to the spot.”
Even hours after the incident, there was a rush there with locals talking about the incident. The accident triggered a huge traffic snarl with many officer goers taking a different route to reach home.

An auto driver was declared brought dead at the Holy family hospital. One leg of the scooter rider, identified as Mohammad Sajid, got amputated, while two other injured persons, identified as Sajad (a doctor by profession) and Kalimuddin, are undergoing treatment.
A manhunt to nab the bus driver, who fled from the spot after the accident, has been launched.

“The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The police are trying to find out if it was the driver’s fault, or there was some technical glitch leading to the accident,” the officer said, adding that a case under the relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the New Friends Colony police station.
