Residents take first step to tackle drug abuse, end encroachment

Drug abuse and roadside encroachment are talk of Jamia Nagar with residents expressing their concern after a few cases of youths’ death due to overdose drug surfaced in the locality. After some NGOs, leaders expressed their desire to come forward to get the issue addressed, Abul Fazal Enclave ABCD Block post bearers have also chipped in.

RWA president Mohd Asif told the OT that on Wednesday they visited Shaheen Bagh police station and submitted a letter urging the administration to crackdown on roadside encroachment and drug abuse in the locality.

General secretary Saeed Akhtar said actions need to be taken against people found involve in drug abuse. If we move around the locality then one can see how empty spaces have been illegally occupied by car owners, he said.

Joint secretary Fahad Pasha said the drug menace and encroachment should be addressed so that the qulity of life improves. See the broad road has been narrowed by people who parked their vehicles illegally and this needs to be stopped, he said.

Residents have been lamenting about roadside encroachment on AFE road and mushrooming workshops. They said encroachment leads to traffic jam from time to time and it should be addressed.
