Prof Hussain is Jamia’s Estate Officer

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has notified the appointment of Professor Eqbal Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia  as the Estate Officer of the university.

He shall exercise the powers conferred and perform the duties imposed on the Estate Officer under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971.

He will act as a Quasi-Judicial Officer under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act to start proceedings for eviction and realisation of damages under the above said Act; issue of summons to witnesses; service of notices; pursue the proceedings; passing of orders and other work related to these proceedings.

He will also look after and pursue appeals filed in the higher courts against the orders passed by the Estate Officer.

Under his Deanship, Faculty of Law, Jamia, was ranked 7th in the Law Category by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2021 improving from 9th rank in NIRF-2020.
