The block which houses department of Biosciences, Biotechnology and one more centre felt the heat after long hours’ power outage, said a source. Following which the source on the condition of anonymity said all research activities came to a halt as major technical snag hits power supply around 4 am in the block.

However, JTA Secretary Dr Mohammad Irfan Qureshi told the OT over phone that power outage was from 11 am to 2 pm in the surrounding locality and as backup was available things were under control in the block.

But the source said due to non-support of generator during power cut expensive lab items got allegedly destroyed, a claim which the OT couldn’t independently verify.

Another source said power outage has been reported impacting research work. He said research materials have been hit due to power cut and non-support of generator system.

Established in 1985, the Biosciences Department maintains plant tissue culture & green house facility, animal, algal, fungal and bacterial cell culture facilities, according to information available on the university website.
