Jamia Nagar police public library scoops award for welfare services

The Delhi police public library of PS Jamia Nagar was awarded with Indian Community Social Responsibility (ICSR) award for providing welfare services to the people.

This award under the patronage of Brand Honchos has been won by PS Jamia Nagar’s library by competing with other 100 libraries situated at different locations in Delhi.
This library was established in 2012 with the collaborative efforts of Shikhar Organisation, an NGO and Delhi Police. Nadeem Akhtar is head of the Shikhar.

Since then, it has been in operation to provide aspirants specially from backward areas an environment full of resources like books, Wi-Fi and other basic amenities.
At present, 150 students are registered in the library who are guided by former Jamia Millia Islamia students and aspirants preparing for UPSC exams voluntarily.

As a part of community policing, the police staff will continue to work with the same zeal in collaboration with various welfare associations by introducing such initiatives time to time, it said in a statement.

A new branch of the library was opened in February 2022. Then Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on had inaugurated a “police public library” at the Okhla Vihar Metro Station.

“It helps to give youth the right direction and better opportunities. Community participation is essential for effective policing… All police stations of the city will have similar facilities in the coming three years,” he said.
Also, a short film ‘Delhi Police ke saath chhatron ka vikas’ was shown on the occasion.

Since its inception, more than 3 lakh children and youths have benefitted through facilities provided by the Delhi Police public libraries, police said.
