SDMC opens garbage café to get rid of plastic waste

The SDMC opens “Garbage Café” to dispose off plastic waste in Najafgarh Zone. Under this innovative concept in exchange of plastic waste, free meals will be provided to the citizens by  Diamond Sweets restaurant in Vardhman Mall, Dwarka.

“The restaurant will offer free breakfast lunch/dinner for bringing 1 kg of plastic waste. The plastic waste includes empty water bottles, cold drink bottles, plastic canes and other plastic items,” it said.

Deputy Commissioner Najafagarh Zone Radha Krishan said in bid to keep the city plastic free, the SDMC started this initiative where needy people and rag pickers can also take advantage of this facility of free meals.

“There are two benefits of this initiative, first we can keep our vicinity clean and plastic free and  secondly, can get delicious food in exchange of plastic waste. This innovative step will contribute towards recycling of dry waste and also bring behavioural change in society towards promoting reduce, reuse and recycle of plastic waste. This scheme will be implemented in other wards of Najafgarh Zone,” it said.
