Though the date of the MCD polls is yet to be announced, local leaders in Okhla have already started their campaign to win hearts and minds of voters and lay their claims to the party ticket.

Of the long list of aspirants in Okhla the buzz in the locality is that former Okhla MLA from the Congress, Parvez Hashmi, is also planning to launch her daughter-in-law Ishrat Jahan, arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a north-east Delhi riots case in February.

She is a former Congress Councillor and also an advocate.

When the OT called Farhan Hashmi to check the authenticity of the information, he said people of the locality want her to contest from ward number 102S as she has done a lot for the community.

We want her to contest but it all depends on the Congress party and if the party gives her ticket then she will contest from the women reserved seat, he told the OT over phone.

On being asked whether he is also planning to contest, he said he is not in the race.

Ward number 102S is represented by AAP Councillor Wajid Khan. After the seat being reserved for women, his wife is going to contest from this ward.

There are other Congress ticket seekers too with the social media flooded with information of former Okhla Congress MLA Asif Md Khan also planning to launch his daughter Areeba Khan from ward number 102S. However, the Congress leader is yet to confirm the development.
