It was on Tuesday morning when work to remove piled-up garbage dumped by residents on the vacant plot started, said residents, who were seen around the plot. Residents were happy with the start of the work in the hope that the land will be cleaned.

Councillor Shoaib Danish told the OT that he was planning to clear the mountain of garbage behind the mosque for days but due to some reasons it was only started today. On being asked that residents are apprehensive that after a few days residents will dump garbage again, he said: “We will put posters on the wall and urged residents not to dirty the area by dumping garbage on the vacant plot. Awareness will be created in the locality. We will get many such areas cleaned. The work at Chinar Market is going on.”

Thanking the councillor for getting the mess cleaned, residents said we had been waiting for this moment for the last four years. “Due to pile-up garbage, it was extremely difficult to reside in the air due to the stink in the air. There were thousands of big rats which has made life difficult for residents,” said one resident.
