The problem has been caused by the breakdown of one of the motors pumping underground water to the homes and different establishments in the area.

The worst affected are those living in apartments and multi-storied buildings. With a single motor remaining operative, not only the duration of water supply has been reduced but the water flow in the mains has also diminished.

Due to low pressure either the supply doesn’t reach rooftop water tanks or it’s only in trickles.

Forced to buy water in jerrycans from vendors to meet their daily requirements, running water has become a thing of the past for the residents of the affected area. Personal hygiene and work in the kitchen are the first casualties of the absence of running water.

Though the very difficult situation the residents are facing has been known to the authorities concerned since the start of the problem, no attempt has so far been made by them to get the out-of-order motor repaired or changed, as the case may be, so that normal water supply to the area is restored and people’s misery ends. Are the authorities listening?
