Missing hustle bustle at Okhla Head

Since the unlocking of Okhla after months of Covid-induced lockdown, the locality is yet to get back the hustle bustle on the road.

At 7 pm on Sunday very few vehicles were plying on Okhla Head and its adjoining road linking Tikona Park, said residents.

E-rickshaw drivers and residents attribute it to Covid second wave impact. Many residents are still in villages and hence it is even difficult to get passenger, said an e-rickshaw driver, who gave his only one name Sonu.

See I am coming from Okhla Vihar and there is only one passenger whereas in pre-Covid days by this time I used to get four or five passengers, he said, adding that many people are still to return from their villages and some continue to stay inside for fear of Delta Plus.

Residents said people are turning up at Batla House and other local market places but the road continues to wear a deserted look giving reason to hot weather and with schools, colleges and Jamia Millia Islamia being closed. Since the second wave, many residents, including students and bachelors and even some people with families, left Okhla for villages and their hometown, said one resident and they are yet to return as many are working online from their houses.

Some said the situation my turn normal after Eid-al-Azha or when university opens.
