Jamia Teachers Association (JTA) president Professor Majid Jamil said she was hospitalised. A few days ago we had come to know that her mother had also died.

On May 5, the OT ran a post after her student had reached the portal to carry the message that she was in urgent need of A+ plasma. She’s admitted at Al Shifa Hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar, said Jamia student then. The student told the OT over phone a few minutes ago before the publication of this report that she was shifted from Al Shifa to another hospital ten days ago where she was on ventilator and died at 10.55 pm on Monday. He said he was busy arranging vehicles for the transportation of her body.

The OT spoke with another of her student, Saud, who was at the forefront of helping her in getting treatment. He said she was hospitalised in Fortis Faridabad a few days ago after being taken from Al Shifa and we are trying to get things expedited so that she could be laid to rest in Delhi.

The news of the death of 38-year-old Nabila Sadiq had been doing the rounds in the social media with netizens posting condolence messages. Professor Jamil said Nabila was also Covid positive. However, it is not known whether like many she also tested negative during or after her treatment. Some cases have surfaced in which people are dying due to post-Covid complications after recovering from the infection. The OT is trying to find out and once it is confirmed it will be updated here.

Nabila Sadiq was residing with her old father and mother in Vasant Vihar. Her father Sadique Siddiq retired from Jawahar Lal Nehru University years ago. Nabila Sadiq was unmarried and his brother resides in the USA, said one university source.

Dr. Nabila Sadiq had specialized in Gender/Feminist Theories; Gender, Race and Politics; Women and Politics; Gender in International Relations; Identity Politics, et. al.

She did her MA (2003-05), MPhil (2005-07) and PhD (2013) from School of International Studies, JNU. She did her BA (Hons) in English Literature from Hansraj College, DU (2000-03). Before joining Jamia, she taught graduate students at DU. She had publications in peer reviewed journals to her credit.

Also, she did BCA from IGNOU. She did her schooling from Holy Child Auxilium School, Vasant Vihar.

A message doing the rounds on the virtual world and forwarded by Prof Jamil said: “We lost crucial 4-5 hours when her oxygen level started to dip. Number of calls to hospitals, doctor friends was of no use because they reached saturation point. Ultimately, Dr Raihan of Kalindi Hospital allowed her in emergency, shifted to Alshifa subsequent day. In the meantime, her mother condition deteriorated and she passed away after three days. A Covid recovered student Waquar, their driver and one Farid Khan took her, and family, best care.

“…Dr Firdaus Azmat put best efforts to keep an eye on all process, coordinated with one and all. Everything was in place, but the time lost initially in the search of a hospital proved damaging for her lungs, similarly as for Prof Shafeeque Ansari.”
