Watch: Musarrat takes entrepreneurial plunge

Musarat Jahan has joined the long list of many women in Okhla who have taken entrepreneurial plunge. Besides, she is also shattering years of meticulously built narrative that Muslim women are deprived and confined to the four walls of their house.

An alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia and Okhla resident Musarrat told the OT that for years she was thinking of opening a shop where she could provide Islamic calligraphy and other items related to religion which are rarely found in the city and her dream project was fulfilled on Thursday when she opened her outlet in Shaheen Bagh 40 foota.

Though the inauguration was a low profile one, it attracted a few celebrities, including RJ Naved and others. It is a good move that one can find such items in the locality, said Naved.

After doing Political Science Honours from Jamia, Musarrat did a few cookery shows with ETV Urdu but later on shifted to designing and other work.

“I had interest in Islamic calligraphy and I had been taking online orders from people. After this shop, one can get all these items under one roof,” said Musarrat, mother of three.

Her husband is a businessman.
