Kalkaji gets compost yard for kitchen-generated waste

Chairperson Central Zone Poonam Bhati and Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti today inaugurated a Compost Yard at Central Zone’s Kalkaji.

She said a big size Compost Yard has been set up where compost will be produced through kitchen-generated waste. A total of 36 Compost Boxes have been set up in which organic compost will be produced by using waste materials, soil, wood dust and unused compost. Each Compost Box has capacity to dispose of 2.5 MT wet garbage/waste.

In addition to this, people will be provided compost and plants at this yard in lieu of plastic materials. On the occasion, local area councillor Sunil Sahdev, Additional Ramesh Verma, Deputy Commissioner Central Zone Awanish Kumar and senior officials from SDMC were present.

Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti also inspected a Compost Site at Defence Colony. He also enquired the entire process of making compost at the site. He said that people’s participation will increase through various SDMC-organised Swachhta programmes and activities and they will realise the importance of Swachhta Survekshan-2021. He informed that in order to improve its ranking in Swachhta Survekshan-2021, SDMC has been organising Swachhta-related programmes.

In another programme organised at the Community Centre in Defence Colony, Zone Chairperson and Commissioner awarded Safai Sainiks, Corporation staff and representatives of RWAs for their contribution Swachhta Survekshan by keeping their area clean.  To make people aware about cleanliness, they also flagged off a Swachhta Rally. Similar rallies were organised in 26 Wards of the Central Zone.
