Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) has slammed the alleged “conduct of the PVC office and the Proctor office” over a meeting called by the teachers’ body on February 1.

“The letter circulated by the PVC office and the Proctor office were highly condemned by the JTA EC,” said JTA EC resolution of February 1 carrying signatures of its several members.

The letter providing background of the development on the campus said: “In reference to the meeting of the Extended Executive Council of JTA called today dated February 1 at 12.50 pm vide the notification dated 30.1.2022 sent to all esteemed JTA members, a counter email was posted to all the faculty members by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jamia, at the eleventh hour i.e. 11.38 am today itself, enforcing to stop the extended EC meeting citing Covid guidelines, without checking with the JTA. However, the JTA EC had already made the necessary arrangements following all Covid GoI guidelines and protocols at the meeting site.”

It is known that the meeting was called to discuss development on the campus. As post bearers declined to speak over phone, it was hard for the OT to confirm the topic of the Extended Executive Council meet. But the buzz is that it was called to discuss a current appointment of an official as a Professor, which also grabbed headlines very recently.

However, Covid control chairman and Chief Proctor Professor Waseem Ahmad Khan told the OT over phone that it is false claim that the meeting was being held to discuss about some Professor. In the agenda it was written that the JTA will discuss on academic issues, he said.

“I issued them a letter as Covid control chairman urging them to cancel the extended meeting and they agreed to it. The university is closed and they should have conducted the meeting online,” he said.

The JTA wrote: “The same was already communicated via email to all JTA members sent on January 30. Another email was received from Chief Proctor at 12.16 pm discrediting the importance of the proposed meeting and enforcing to cancel the same. The extended JTA EC meeting postponed until further communication due to the confusion created amongst the teachers by the emails of the PVC and Chief Proctor.

“Thereafter, a meeting of the JTA executive was held on February 1 and 3.50 pm. In the meeting, the letter circulated by the PVC office and the Proctor office were highly condemned by the JTA EC. The reasons cited in their letters was irrelevant as Covid guidelines issued by … have already been relaxed permitting a gathering up to 200 persons.

“JTA Executive further resolved that such irresponsible behaviour of administration cannot cease the democratic deliberations on the campus.

“The universities are platform for open debate on any matter and taking appropriate decisions. The future course of action will be communicated to all the JTA members soon,” it said.
