With temperature in Delhi soaring, ending respite brought by thunderstorm and rain four days ago, many parents who had come from far places with their children for school entrance exams faced the heat at Jamia Millia Islamia.

Some parents alleged that the examinations centres lacked basic facilities like drinking water, no tents being set up, fans to beat the heat. A small video clip surfaced on the social media in which it can be seen that parents inside the school campus were standing or sitting on the ground sans any basic facilities.

Many were seen sweating in the blistering heat.

Usually Jamia provides sitting facilities and drinking water to the parents or people who come with examinees and hence the development came as a shock for many in Okhla and Jamia.

After the OT called a top university official for his comment over the issue, he said from tomorrow onwards facilities like drinking water, chairs will be provided to the parents.

An alumnus on the condition of anonymity said Jamia has a long tradition of welcoming people and when you don’t provide even basic facilities these days just think what impression these people will get about the university as they go back to their places.

The OT has come to know from reliable sources that basic facilities will be provided to parents whose wards come to appear for university entrance exams.

Outside the school many stalls of people selling sharbat surfaced. Some coaching institutes too had put their kiosks providing drinking water in a bid to woo students.
