According to advocate HR Khan Suhel, who is also a member of IICC, in April many members asked the president to convene a meeting to discuss Covid-19.

However, the meeting couldn’t take place as consensus couldn’t be made on how to hold the meeting whether online or offline.

After which Suhel, Supreme Court advocate and a former Board of Trustee and member of the IICC, wrote a letter to Qureshi asking him to convert the IICC into Covid care facility.

He wrote: “As an erstwhile Board of Trustee and member of Islamic Cultural Centre, treat this message as an urgent request for using/ converting IICC as a Covid care facility.

“As we all know, Delhi is engulfed in a more virulent and fatal wave of Covid-19, lot of people are struggling to find beds, oxygen, and required care for Covid positive patients either themselves or their kith and kin. The hospitals in Delhi are overburdened and we are almost nearing a healthcare crisis.

“Therefore, I request the president, vice president, and all the members of the board to convert IICC as a Covid care facility. We can easily tie up with the government, hospital and an initiative should be taken to help people at large who are suffering due to the deadly pandemic. I would request the president to forthwith write a letter to the CM of Delhi as well as the Health minister of the Delhi Govt.

“Furthermore, in addition to this, IICC can also be used as a vaccination centre for the sake and convenience of public at large including the esteemed members of IICC.

I hope that immediate action is taken in this regard.”
