Okhla’s popular restaurants fined for not following Covid guidelines

A two-day special drive was launched in Delhi, including Okhla, to crackdown on violators amid rising Covid cases in the national Capital in which four people were arrested and several restaurants, night clubs and hotels fined.

They faced cases for flouting Covid-19 safety guidelines, police officials said on Sunday.

“Many restaurants like Brijwasi, Al Nawaz, Al Jawahar, Zehra Al Noor and Al Bake were challaned for violation of Covid norms and prosecuted u/s 3 of Epidemic act in the New Friends colony sub division.

“A strict action was initiated that resulted into224 challans for not wearing mask and 6 challans for spitting on the public passage. The prosecution drive was followed with a masks and sanitizer distribution drive by the police officials to boost up the morale of public to fight against Covid-19,” said the police.

Many people were also fined for not wearing face masks and spitting in public areas on Friday and Saturday.

Establishments serving hookah were also penalised, police said.

A total of 17 FIRs were registered against the violators, police said.

“On Saturday, a special drive was initiated which resulted into registration of 10 FIRs under relevant sections and 330 challans for not wearing mask, violating social distancing rule and spitting on the common passageway.

“Various restaurants, bars, banquet halls, guest houses and markets were under strict vigilance to curb the effect of this pandemic,” it said.

Delhi on Sunday recorded 4,033 Covid-19 cases and 21 deaths, according to the health bulletin released by authorities. This was termed as the highest one-day spike this year.
