Huge rush in Okhla hospital, know the reason

At 11 am on Wednesday there was a huge rush at a local hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave with residents waiting time going up to more than 30 minutes to get appointment with doctors. The registration area of Al Shifa Hospital was chock-a-block with many patients waiting in queue and some even seen sitting outside doctors’ cabin. On being asked, a security staff said since the rain the hospital is seeing a huge rush of people coming for treatment.

It is understood that viral fever and dengue have triggered huge rush in hospitals. Another security guard said there are many dengue patients hospitalised. However, a hospital staff authorized to speak with the media said there is rush as patients are coming due to viral fever and dengue. It has been observed that many patients platelet is low but their results are not negative. Some dengue patients are hosptialised also.

A Johri Farm-based homeopathy doctor said in the last few days he too has seen many patients coming to him with viral fever symptoms.

Jasola-based Kalindi Hospital senior official said the hospital is seeing three or four people coming having dengue symptoms. He said many people don’t need hospitalisation but care.

According to a study by Social Circles, 8 of 10 households in Delhi-NCR had one or more affected by viral fever in last 30 days as reported by the media on August 18.

They had one or more symptoms of viral fever such as fever, runny nose, cough, headache, bodyache, among others. Sixty-three per cent of the respondents were men and 37 per cent were women.

The online platform also reported that in most cases, people have been opting for home kits to test if they have Covid or viral fever.

Dengue cases too have spiked in Delhi with over 400 fresh cases of dengue being reported in Delhi and the tally rising to 937. The number of dengue cases witnessed a sharp rise in September with more than 400 new infections being reported in the last week of the month. According to a report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, 693 cases of dengue were reported last month till September 28.

In 2015, Delhi had seen a massive dengue outbreak. Many deaths were reported in Okhla.
