A green chowk and a freedom fighter fountain were inaugurated at Okhla gate in Jamia on Wednesday by Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan. The green chowk has come up at the Jamia Millia Islamia metro station. The MLA said he plans to open more such freedom fighter fountain in the locality.

Welcoming the development, some residents said they expect more from the MLA to make the area clean and green.

“It is a good move, but as you walk ahead you find roads in bad shape. So it should be paved. Also, just nearby the newly built freedom fighter fountain you find homeless people occupying space in front of Noam Chomsky Centre at Jamia which kills the beauty. It the MLA is really serious in beautifying the area then he should address the issue immediately,” said a resident on the condition of anonymity.

They said the MLA should also work on health and education.

Moreover, some residents are deeply upset over the dumping of garbage in the open nearby Al Shifa Hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave and at a mosque in Shaheen Bagh, mushrooming workshops, roadside encroachment and putting streetlights on dark spots.

A large number of AAP workers had turned up at the spot.
