Giving first-hand account of the incident, Razi said thanks to the presence of mind of the residents around that the fire was doused. “Luckily there was a repairing work going on in the neighborhood just next to ours. From there we collected sand and everyone tried to snuff out the flames,” he said.

“I was having my morning tea after Fajr Namaz when I saw smoke billowing from the building with a crackling noise. Right after that my neighbour who lives just above my floor knocked at my door bell and alerted me about the fire in the flat. We rushed and woke up the neighbours and other people in the building.

“We successfully doused the fire which could have burnt the entire building. No casualties reported.”

The cause of the fire couldn’t be ascertained till the filing of this report.

However, many residents still remember the 2019 Zakir Nagar 2 am fire which broke out from short circuit and had engulfed the four-storey building leading to deaths of six people, including two children. Some 11 people were injured in the fire.
