In a letter to top university authorities, a BE Electrical Engineering 4th year student, carrying signatures of some students, wrote: “We are students of BE (Electrical Engineering) 4th year. As we well known that India is facing Covid-19 since March. In this time, some of our students lost their jobs. Due to this and especially the quarantine measures, our family’s income has gone down dramatically. We were hopeless that our classes would not continue due to corona but we are thankful to university administration for continuing class by on-line mode.

“In addition, there is not any hope for physical presence in classroom in this session. Therefore we are not able to take all facilities of university and main purpose of going to your esteemed university is unfulfilled. Though there are some interactions with teachers through distance learning. This in turn, has become part-time/e-learning educational programme for us which imposed additional burden on our family.

“We are in particular concerned about paying the college fees for this year. In consideration of this pandemic induced situation, regretfully we are seeking from Faculty for assistance in following:

“1. Request for the 50 per cent relief in college fees for this session, 2) waive off transaction charges on online mode of fee submission  (if any), 3) and extend the due date of fee submission at least for 30 more days (currently it is August 1, 2020).

“We certainly hope that we can continue to study without interruption and also hope college administrator help us to overcome this situation. We hope to have the opportunity to discuss this issue with you. So, we are request to give us your valuable time,” said the letter.

University authorities could not be reached to find out whether they have received such letter or not. Once we receive their version, it would be updated.
