Some new eateries which opened in the locality faced hardship as lockdown began. Of them Jawahar is one such name. It was in February end when, Jawahar, which has been in the eatery business for the last 80 years in Old Delhi, came to Okhla and opened a branch at Okhla Head with much fanfare.

“Jawahar opened its new set up in hope to recover the early loss due to Covid first wave. Everything was going on well as on February 26 we opened a new branch in Okhla. But after a month, the second wave arrived and it all went bust. The eatery had to be closed. We spent millions in the interiors of the hotel. The building was taken on rent,” Md Salman, owner of the eatery, told the OT over phone.

He said many eateries have faced the same situation in Okhla and in the national Capital. On the same street, another hotel, was opened, which since the second wave has been closed. Another restaurant at Tikona Park opened by students too faced hardship.
