Watch: RJ Naved supports crowd funding drive of okhlatimes, says he reads OT for local news

India’s leading Radio Jockey, Naved Khan, in a video appeal, has urged Okhla residents to support the okhlatimes, which a few days ago launched its crowdfunding drive to sustain community portal covering local news since 2011.

He said he reads the OT for Okhla news.

It takes only a few bucks to sustain and strengthen your voice. (To contribute click here)

“I reside in Okhla and earlier people used to inform me about updates in the locality, but not anymore. Since I started reading the OT, I come to know about incidents taking place in the locality. I request you all to support the OT. It is my firm belief that as long as the OT is operational we will continue to get regular updates about many issues from the portal. Wish them best of luck,” said Naved.

The portal has been trying hard to highlight local news for years by rushing to the ground. Over the years, it has succeeded in having a captive audience spread across the globe with Jamia and Okhla Diaspora reading its daily updates and appreciating the work.

Many of the reports have find space in national dailies too.

Over the years, it has succeeded in having a captive audience spread across the globe with Jamia and Okhla Diaspora reading its daily updates and appreciating the work.

For years, hyperlocal portal has been empowering the locals through its high-impact reports which rarely find space in corporate-backed media due to many reasons, including space restraint.

Years ago, the OT ran a successful campaign to raise money for an impoverished resident for operation, helped another resident, who had lost his legs in an accident, get wheelchair, and more.

Besides, the portal also ran a successful campaign to get India’s freedom fighter Maulana Jauhar’s correct name on a signboard in Okhla.

Our regular reports about a kid’s judo feat helped him get his name in a Book of world record. Always ran high-impact reports helping Jamia students’ cause.

The India Today also ran a story on the portal.

The portal was shortlisted for XCity London Award 2011 for its local reporting with four Europe-based journalists. The portal has won several awards.

Besides highlighting stories on Jamia Millia Islamia, Shaheen Bagh, environment, health, toxic plant, like lack of quality schools, piled up garbage on roadsides, non-availability of drinking water, traffic snarl, low-quality buildings, sewage, women issues, sports and other important issues impacting residents, the portal regularly runs inspirational and motivational stories to make residents think positive.

Some of the videos have gone viral.

Now, we want to raise funds so that we could hire more hands giving more insight into what is happening – irrespective of whether mainstream media covers it or not.
