Jamia Hamdard (A Government-Aided Deemed to be University), New Delhi, is pleased to announce the appointment of Col. Tahir Mustafa as the new Registrar of the University. He assumed charge from Dr. Sarfaraz Ahsan, Registrar (Officiating), on July 26, 2025.

Col Tahir Mustafa is widely recognised as an accomplished administrator and a seasoned officer in the Indian Armed Forces. Known for his integrity, leadership, and administrative acumen, he has held several key positions within the Government of India, said the university in a release.

Most recently, he served as Director at the Centre for Automated Military Survey (CAMS), IHQ of Ministry of Defence (Army), Government of India. He also held the post of Director, International Boundary Directorate and Head of the Boundary Cell at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Prior to that, he was Director (Administration and Training) at ADG Military Survey, New Delhi, and Director of the Bihar Geospatial Centre, Patna. His earlier assignments include serving as Survey Field In-Charge Indo-Nepal Border, and as Task Force Commander at the Eastern Border in Sikkim. He has worked extensively with top agencies of Central, State and paramilitary forces.

In recognition of his outstanding service, Col. Tahir Mustafa was awarded a citation in 2007 by General V. K. Singh, the Former Chief of Army Staff, India for his exemplary work as Task Force Commander in Sikkim, said the university.

Academically, he holds a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, M.Sc. in Geography from Madras University, and has completed various basic and advanced courses of strategic importance.

The teaching and non-teaching staff of Jamia Hamdard, extended their warm congratulations to Col. Tahir Mustafa on his appointment. They expressed confidence that his extensive administrative experience and leadership will greatly contribute to the growth, development, and excellence of Jamia Hamdard.

In another development on the campus, Jamia Hamdard celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm on June 23, 2025. The event was organised by the Yoga Club of Jamia Hamdard under the aegis of the Dean, Students’ Welfare.

The programme commenced at 10:30 am with an opening address by Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Dean, Students’ Welfare, who emphasised the importance of Yoga Day and its relevance in today’s fast-paced world.

Dr. Sarfaraz Ahsan, Registrar (Officiating), Jamia Hamdard, highlighted the numerous physical and mental health benefits of yoga. He encouraged faculty members, administrative staff, and students to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine.

Delivering the presidential address, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, underlined the holistic impact of yoga on physical and mental well-being and the need for its integration into everyday life.

A live yoga demonstration session was conducted by Yogacharya Shri Deepak Singh, a certified yoga trainer. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 200 individuals, including students, teaching, and non-teaching staff. The practical session began with Challan Kriya (loosening exercises), followed by a series of yoga asanas performed in four postures: sitting, standing, prone (lying on the stomach), and supine (lying on the back) postures.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Prachi Tiwari, Member, Yoga Club, Jamia Hamdard, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors for making the event a success.
