LG Saxena launches joint special cleanliness drive

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday launched a joint special cleanliness drive from Mukherjee Nagar.

Addressing the programme, Saxena said Delhi is a historical city and Delhi as a city has always done historical works. “Today we are starting a joint cleanliness drive to make Delhi the cleanest city, which is also a historic work in itself.” Saxena said all agencies of Delhi are participating in this cleanliness drive, I thank everyone for their efforts.

He said no government programme can succeed without public participation. Through this initiative, all of us will work together to make Delhi a better city.

Referring to the challenges being faced by the city of Delhi, the LG said there are some stains depicted on the face of Delhi.

“We will all work together to eradicate the tags of a dirty city, the most polluted city, mountains of garbage, the stain of the polluted Yamuna. LG said that even Mahatma Gandhi always gave importance to cleanliness. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is such a leader who took the initiative of cleanliness in the country,” he said.

Highlighting the efforts of the Safai Karamcharis, the LG said the role of the Safai Karamcharis in making the city clean is commendable. He said Safai Karamcharis have the highest place in society due to their work. He said that without Safai Karamcharis no one can save the city from a pandemic.

The LG said cleanliness is like sandalwood, when you apply it on someone’s forehead, the fingers of the person who applied it also get fragrance.

Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari said in his address that the wave of cleanliness is going on in the country since Modi’s taken the resolution of Swachh Bharat in 2014. The Prime Minister himself raised a broom in his hand and through his behaviour, he also gave the message of cleanliness.

Tiwari said cleanliness campaigns are being run in every area of Delhi. “Everyone is appreciating the efforts of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for cleanliness.” Tiwari said seeing the efforts of the LG, it seems that all of us are working to make a new and clean Delhi.

Appealing to the people to cooperate in the cleanliness drive, Tiwari said the goal of cleanliness cannot be achieved with the help of sanitation workers alone.

On the occasion as a Special Guest, Member of Parliament, Manoj Tiwari, Chief Secretary of Delhi, Naresh Kumar, Special officer of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Ashwani Kumar, Commissioner of MCD, Gyanesh Bharti and Secretary to LG Ankita Mishra Bundela were also present.
