Shops sealed in Batla House to curb child labour

Three shops were sealed in Batla House to curb child labour, said Mahmood Ahmed. “On Thursday operation to rescue child labours was held and three shops were sealed. After coming to know about the incident I rushed to the spot and spoke with the NGO and authorities,” said AAP leader Mahmood.

He said what left many residents upset was that in one case a minor who had gone to purchase some items was also stopped. “We are not against the child labour rescue operation. Our request is that rule and regulation should be followed and proper identification be made during the drive. It is better that awareness should be created among the residents informing that deploying minor as labour is shop is against the law. Ultimatum should be given to violators and then if they don’t mend their ways actions need to be taken,” he said.

Videos of the incident also surfaced on the social media. A Batla House resident said they are not against the operation but the way in which it was carried was not right.

Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan also reached the spot after the operation was finished and NGO workers and authorities left. He was seen interacting with YouTubers.

Some residents welcomed the move and said shop owners should stop hiring child labours.
