6 days after Ziaul Haque’s death, his wife hospitalised in Holy Family passes away

Six days after Mohammad Ziaul Haque, 71, a journalist, weightlifter, voracious reader, prolific writer and a resident of Okhla who died on April 22 at Holy Family Hospital, his wife also passed away today, according to family members.

Ashghari Beghum died in the morning at Holy Family Hospital where she was undergoing treatment for days after testing Covid positive, said his brother over phone. However, after 14 days of hospitalisation, her report was but she  but had many secondary infections.

Mohammad Ziaul Haque died of cardiac arrest and he too was Covid positive with comorbidity. His wife Ashghari Beghum, who also had comorbidity, was hospitalised to Holy Family Hospital days with his son Mohammad Vaqas and both of them were on oxygen for more than 2 days.

Family members, who were hopeful of her recovery as her condition was improving, said her condition deteriorated in the morning suddenly and she passed away.

The reason behind the death couldn’t be ascertained.

Vaqas had told the OT after recovering from the infection he was discharged with his mother being shifted to ICU after some health issues. For all these days, the family was taking care of her in the hospital.

She was unaware about her husband’s death with whom she was married in 1960.

Like her husband, she is to be laid to rest at designated ITO graveyard.

Ashghari Beghum, who has left behind two sons and a daughter, a Professor of English at DU, was a housewife.

Ashghari Beghum’s daughter-in-law Rizwana Waqas told the OT earlier that how she had taken care of the family members when they were down with fever.

Many people have recovered from Covid in Okhla.
