“AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan declared history-sheeter & bad character on March 30. 18 FIRs registered against him till now: Delhi Police He was arrested by Delhi Police at Madanpur Khadar y’day, where SDMC conducted an anti-encroachment drive; later, he was sent to judicial custody,” reported ANI.

The move would allow police to take stringent surveillance and preventive measures against the Okhla MLA, reported TOI.

The proposal for declaring Khan as a bad character was sent on March 28 by the Jamia Nagar police station in Southeast district and approved on March 30. Khan had been previously involved in 18 cases. “Most of the cases registered against him are related to intimidation, threatening, hurt, riots causing hindrance duties of public servants and causing enmities between two groups and communities,” as per the document.

“The proposed Bad Character Amanatullah Khan, a resident of Khajuri Road, Jamia Nagar, attended Jamia Millia Islamia, but didn’t complete his degree. He was educated till Class XII, which he passed in 1992-93. He is married and has two children,” it stated.

“As Amanatullah Khan has become a habitual criminal, and has been involved in land grabbing, and hurt offences and the prosecution made against him has failed to deter him from his criminal activities, his activities need to be kept under surveillance. Keeping in view his criminal record and activities, his surveillance is necessary. If approved, we may open his history sheet and his name be entered in register… so that a close surveillance on his activities can be kept,” it alleges, reported IE.

Khan and five others were arrested on Thursday on charges of rioting and obstructing public servants during anti-encroachment drive in the Madanpur Khadar area. However, he was granted bail on Friday.

The IE reported: Khan’s lawyer, advocate Md Irshad, said: “They have declared him a ‘bad character’ just to defame him and tarnish the image of the Aam Aadmi Party. They have mentioned cases in which he has already been discharged or acquitted, or cases where trial/investigation is pending. We are going to the High Court against the Delhi Police for defaming him.”
