Shooting at Holy Family Hospital, 1 Jamia student hurt in fighting with another university student

Presence of large number of police force at Holy Family Hospital has caused panic in Jamia Nagar with words spreading that one person has been injured. One injury was reported after a shooting took place at Holy Family Hospital in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area on Thursday night, when a Jamia Milia Islamia student fired at another student, according to PTI.

The incident took place at 10 pm on Thursday.

In the incident, Noman Chaudhary (26), a resident of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, sustained blunt injury on his head and was admitted in the Holy Family Hospital. He has been shifted to AIIMS trauma centre.

The police said one person was injured, reported NDTV. Residents said the shooting most probably which took place a few hours ago is said to be result of fighting between two groups of students at Jamia Millia Islamia.

UPDATE: Adil Pradhan told the media that his brother, a law student at Jamia and who won the CR election, got injured in the shooting but he is out of danger. Top police officers reached the spot to probe the incidents. The fight was between two groups of Jamia the Mewati and UP. Around 8.50 pm, information was received regarding a quarrel at Jamia Millia Islamia university library, according to the police. During inquiry, it was found that the fight had ensued between two groups of students, a senior police officer said.

On September 29, the OT reported: The incident is being talked on the social media with some saying the injured student is from Jamia and the fight was over CR election.

However, the OT is yet to verify these claims as university officials couldn’t be reached till filing of this report.

“There was a clash between two groups in the locality, and some injured persons were brought to the hospital Emergency. One shot was fired in the Emergency between the clashing groups. No bystanders, other patients or hospital staff were injured. The situation was immediately brought under control,” the hospital said in a statement.

Residents got alarmed after sketchy message started circulating on the social media saying that a “student leader who won the election in Jamia sustained bullet injury. But he is fine as injury not serious and admitted in Holy Family Hospital.”

A Jamia student told the OT over phone that CR election is going on but all was fine on the campus. However, another student said there was fight between two groups at Jamia road near the mosque. And when asked about firing incident, he said he is not aware about the development. It is not known whether the shooting which took place at Holy Family Hospital has to do anything with today’s incident or related to election fight on the campus.

A university teacher said till his stay on the campus late evening at about 7 pm he didn’t hear about any such incident save fighting between two groups.
