Okhla sees mad rush of New Year revellers

On the New Year, Okhla saw a huge rush of revellers.  Despite cold, a large number of residents, mostly girls and women in hijab, were seen at Metro Station, bus stands in Jamia Nagar in the morning going to their destination to celebrate the day with family and friends.

Some even got stuck in huge traffic jam in other parts of Delhi.

A resident, who gone out for some work, said he had never seen such traffic jam as Connaught Place and India Gate were jam packed where people had gathered to celebrate the New Year.

Police said heavy snarls were also reported from ITO intersection and near Akshardham temple.

Syed Azeem said he was stuck in traffic jam for more than one hour and reached his home in Okhla after taking another route.

Several Delhiites took to Twitter to share their problems.

“Utter chaos and long traffic jams around India Gate on Sunday and Saturday. This happens every year,” one of the commuters twitted.

Another commuter said that central Delhi witnessed a huge traffic around Mandi House, India Gate, Connaught Place, Pandara Road, Akbar Road, Shahjahan Road, and Man Singh Road.
