Jamia terms Professor Sushant Ghosh achievement proud moment

Jamia termed it as a proud moment.

This honour places Professor Ghosh among the top 0.05 per cent of scholars worldwide in black hole research, highlighting exceptional scholarly productivity, impact, and quality sustained over the past five years, said the university. The recognition is based on comprehensive bibliometric analysis covering over 200 million scientific publications and 30 million author profiles worldwide.

ScholarGPS® is a pioneering global platform that uses advanced algorithms to evaluate and rank scholars based on various factors, including research productivity, impact, and quality. Research productivity is measured by the number of peer-reviewed publications authored by a scholar. The impact is assessed through citations these publications have received from the broader academic community, carefully excluding self-citations. Quality is evaluated through the h-index, which reflects both productivity and citation impact. ScholarGPS® further accounts for co-authorship by fairly weighting contributions across multiple authors and classifies research into more than 350,000 distinct specialties and 177 academic disciplines.

    Professor Sushant Ghosh research portfolio

“Professor Ghosh’s research portfolio is distinguished by its focus on theoretical and observational aspects of black hole physics. His contributions include investigations into quantum corrections of spacetime around rotating black holes, detailed modelling of photon rings and shadows cast by black holes, and strong gravitational lensing studies that deepen understanding of light bending in extreme gravitational fields,” said the university.

Vice Chancellor of Jamia Professor Mazhar Asif congratulated Professor Sushant Ghosh on this remarkable accomplishment and expressed immense pride in his ranking as the second-highest ranked scholar in black hole physics worldwide. Prof Asif said such achievements by Jamia faculty members exemplify the university’s commitment to cutting-edge science and academic leadership on the global stage.

Notably, Professor Ghosh was also part of the CTP group which received the President of India Visitor’s Award for Research in 2015. He was also honoured as a Fulbright Fellow in 2018 and has received the IOP Publishing Top Cited Paper Awards — four awards in 2022 and one in 2024. He has also been invariably featured in Stanford University’s prestigious list of the top 2% of scientists worldwide for 2020 through 2024.

ScholarGPS® is an internationally acknowledged analytics platform that ranks researchers based on quantitative analysis of scholarly output and impact, enabling the identification of leaders in every academic speciality. It supports institutions and researchers worldwide in benchmarking performance, facilitating collaboration, and promoting excellence.

Jamia said it congratulates Professor Ghosh on this global recognition, which honours individual excellence and reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing top-tier research and innovation. “The university takes pride in supporting such pioneering work that places JMI on the world stage of scientific discovery,” it said.
