The ICMR grant, recognised as one of the highest honors for biomedical research in India, will enable Prof. Khan and her team to design, develop, and validate BET inhibitors targeting key epigenetic biomarkers involved in TNBC progression. The project aims to identify novel therapeutic targets through in-silico drug design, in vitro assays, and preclinical studies, potentially contributing to the discovery of new and effective treatment strategies for one of the most aggressive and therapeutically challenging subtypes of breast cancer.

Commenting on the achievement, Prof. Nida Jamil Khan said: “I am deeply honored to receive this grant from ICMR. It represents a significant opportunity to translate computational insights into meaningful therapeutic interventions for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. I am grateful to my research team, my institution JMI, and ICMR for their support and encouragement.”

The grant will provide funding for two years, facilitating advanced experimentation, collaboration with leading experts, and the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. This initiative aligns with ICMR’s mission to promote cutting-edge research and address pressing healthcare challenges facing India.

Prof. Nida Jamil Khan is a renowned cancer biologist with over 16 years of teaching and research experience in cancer biology, molecular genetics, and cell biology. Her research focuses on breast cancer, epigenetic biomarker discovery, drug target identification, and molecular pathway elucidation. Prof. Khan has supervised several Ph.D. scholars and published numerous research papers in reputed international journals.

She has been trained at AIIMS (New Delhi), Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB, Hyderabad), and University College London (UCL, UK) — institutions of global excellence in biomedical sciences. Her academic journey and extensive research experience continue to strengthen JMI’s commitment to fostering excellence in scientific innovation and translational research.
