The SDMC said it is making all efforts to improve its ranking in Swachh Survekshan-2021 following which it wanted to make markets, malls, shopping complexes, commercial areas, educational institutions, etc plastic free.

Apart from this, the SDMC said it is successfully operating 5 TDP capacity Aerobic Compost Plant in Tagore Garden.

“Today 10,000 kg organic compost generated from Tagore Garden Compost Plant given to Horticulture Department for use in SDMC parks,” it said.

Nodal Officer of Swachh Bharat Mission Rajiv Jain said: “Wet garbage collected from the nearby areas is being disposed of at this plant. In last one month nearly 60,000 kg wet garbage/waste has been disposed off out of which 6000 kg Organic Compost has been generated. Till now 63,000 kg compost has been distributed to SDMC’s Horticulture Department for use in parks, schools and RWAs.”

Jain said this is a low cost plant of Delhi. “To produce organic compost in this plant, waste materials, soil and unused compost are being mixed. These materials are being kept in boxes and it takes a total of 3 weeks to convert the material into organic compost. Waste is being segregated in all 29 Wards in West Zone,” he said.
