A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said they received information about the incident at 12:14 pm. Soon after, four fire engines were rushed to the spot where a three-storey building, ground plus two floors, had collapsed, reported news agency PTI.
According to the official, three people were rescued from the debris and taken to hospital. “Three persons were rescued from the debris and immediately taken to hospital,” PTI quoted him as saying. Rescue operations are still underway, while the cause of the collapse is not yet known.
Irfan Ahmad said he held a discussion with the NDRF Inspector at the site and assured full cooperation from SBF in the relief efforts.
SBF volunteers, including Amaan, Rizak, and Hamza, actively supported the ongoing operations, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the official agencies to help the affected families, the NGO said.
“SBF has always been at the forefront of disaster management and humanitarian relief across India. Once again, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to serving people in times of crisis, standing united with victims and rescue teams during this tragic incident,” it added.
Though the tragedy occurred in Daryaganj, far from Okhla, residents expressed deep shock and sorrow over the collapse and the deaths. Many said the incident has once again raised serious concerns about the sturdiness of buildings.
