    Jamia student Khalid adds another feather to his cap

    JMI student bags gold and silver medal in Uganda Para Badminton International 2022

    Munna Khalid, a Ph.D. student enrolled at the Department of Hindi, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) represented India and won a gold medal in doubles event and a silver medal in singles event at Uganda Para Badminton International 2022. The championship was organised by Badminton Confederation, Africa under the aegis of Badminton World Federation (BWF) at Kampala, Uganda from 13th to 18th September, 2022.

    Khalid and his partner Shashank Kumar defeated the Japanese team in the doubles event and he marginally lost to the Japanese player in singles event.

    The Indian High commissioner at Uganda Shri A. Ajay Kumar also felicitated Khalid and other members of the Indian team by giving appreciation certificates at the Indian High Commission, Kampala, Uganda.

    Khalid is representing NCT of Delhi at the national level in Para Badminton and with this achievement Khalid became the first player from Delhi to win a medal in any international Para Badminton event.

    JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated Kahlid for the achievement and wished him success in his future endeavours.

    “I am very happy and it is my dream to win a medal for India in the Paralympics and Para Asian games,” said Khalid.

    Earlier, Khalid won one bronze medal in singles event and another bronze in the double event at the 4th National Para Badminton Championship organised by Para Sports Association of Odisha in December, 2021 at Bhubaneswar. He is the first player from the NCT of Delhi to have won a medal in any National Level Para Badminton Championship.

    Before enrolling for his PhD, Khalid also did Master of Social Work (MSW), MA (Hindi) and BA (Hindi) programmes from JMI.
