Laundry woes plague Jamia Nagar residents post-Eid

Many residents of Jamia Nagar are facing problems in getting their clothes ironed, as many laundries closed since Eid are yet to reopen. Some of those that have reopened have increased their prices from Rs 7 to Rs 10, said a resident.

The problem started after Eid when many laundry owners left for their hometowns to celebrate the festival. On that day, they also charged extra money in the name of Eidy.

Even now, after more than a week, many shops remain closed, and those that are open are not accepting new clothes for ironing. They said they are busy clearing the backlog of clothes from customers as they had gone to their villages or towns to celebrate the festival, said a resident on the condition of anonymity.

Another resident, Yusuf, said ironing clothes has become a pressing problem in Jamia Nagar after Eid, as a few dhobis who have reopened their shops have increased their prices. With no other options left, residents are forced to pay extra to get their work done.

Other residents lamented that it is sad to see how people try to make extra money in emergency situations, even during festivals. They said whether it’s during Ramzan, Eid, or Bakrid, people, especially traders, attempt to make extra profit by increasing the prices of essentials in the locality.
