The Jamia Nagar Police achieved a success this week by busting a bike theft gang on Friday. The gang had been operating in Batla House for several weeks, according to people aware of the development.
Acting on complaints and FIRs regarding motorcycle thefts from parking lots and streets, the police formed a special team under the leadership of SHO Narpal Singh to crack the case and get to the depth of the story.
After weeks of surveillance, analysis of CCTV footage, and development of local informers, the team successfully apprehended the gang leader along with two accomplices. A total of nine stolen motorcycles were recovered from the gang, many of which had already been partially dismantled and prepared for sale as spare parts.
“This was becoming a persistent problem in the area [Okhla]. Our team worked tirelessly, developed sources, studied CCTV footage and managed to arrest three accused and recover nine bikes. The accused have been sent to judicial custody,” SHO Narpal Singh told the media. He praised the endeavours of his team.
All three arrested are reportedly from the local area, and the stolen motorcycles were also taken from within and around Jamia Nagar, said police. The recovered bikes and the accused were paraded in front of the local media on Friday night.
“This is the job of the police to catch criminals and stop crime,” said Singh. “Our team has done excellent work, and we will continue to act firmly against such crimes in the future as well,” he said.
The arrested individuals were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. The recovered motorcycles have been secured as evidence, and further investigations are underway to determine if more members of the gang are at large.
Social activist Md Sagheer aware of the development said local residents had grown increasingly frustrated by the daily reports of thefts, which often occurred from parking areas and even directly outside homes. “The arrest of the gang leader and his associates has brought relief to the community and is being seen as a significant achievement for the Jamia Nagar Police Station,” he said.
Residents expressed hope that vigilant and proactive policing would not only deter motorcycle thefts in the area but also curb the menace of everyday petty crimes. They urged the police to take strict and exemplary action against such offenders to ensure that ordinary citizens can live in peace and feel secure in the locality.
