    Jamia wins North Zone Inter University Basketball trophy 2022

    Jamia wins North Zone Inter University Basketball trophy 2022. Prof. Waseem Ahmad Khan, Director, Games & Sports, JMI and Convener, said Team Jamia played well to win the championship.

    Jamia defeated Punjabi University, Patiala in the final round robin league match held today at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex, JMI.

    The university retained the title for the second time also with the victory as it has been the winner of the last two championships too. Kurukshetra University, Haryana, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala secured 2nd, 3rd and 4th position respectively.
    JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony and distributed awards to the winning team.

    She congratulated all the teams for participating in the championship and showing sportsman spirit. She said all of them are winners as they have shown commitment for the game, discipline and sportsman spirit. She wished great success to all the teams in coming years.

    Prof. Savita Sengar, Vice Chancellor, Jharkhand RAI University, Ranchi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

    She distributed awards to the runner up team. She praised JMI’s sports infrastructure, warmth and hospitality she received at the university. She also applauded the dynamic and empathetic leadership of JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar.

    Prof Waseem Ahmad Khan, Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI briefed the audience about the tournament and teams during the prize distribution ceremony which was attended by Prof. Sanjay Singh, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Championship, Prof. Weqar Ahmad Siddiqui, Deputy Director, Games & Sports, JMI, faculty members, officers and other staff members of the university. Prize distribution programme ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Shabana Mehfuz, President, Basketball, JMI.

    JMI team was represented by Prince Tyagi as Captain and team members Abhinav Sharma, Bhagyansh Gulati, Chitwan Chaudhary, Deependra Singh Rathore, Faisal Khan, Harsh Rao, Harsh Singh, Mohit, Nistish Beniwal, Prashant Kumar Chillar, Udbhav Tyagi. The team was coached by Pulkit Rawat and Dr. Mohd Moonis was the team Manager under the overall supervision of the Hony. Director, Games & Sports, JMI.

    A total of 64 teams participated in the tournament which started on 25th December,2022 and was inaugurated by Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI.

    North Zone Inter University Basketball Men’s Championship started at NMAK Sports Complex, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on 25th December,2022.

    A total of 32 knockout games (Sixteen (16) games each in indoor and outdoor courts) were played at NMAKP Sports Complex, JMI on the inaugural day.

    Prof. Waseem Ahmad Khan, Director, Games & Sports, JMI and Convener extended a floral and formal welcome to the Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI & Guest of Honour Prof. Ibraheem, DSW, JMI and other dignitaries with the mementos & saplings. The Chief Guest met with the participating teams and made formal inauguration of the tournament. Prof. Shabana Mehfuz, President Basketball presented a brief introduction of the Chief Guest.

    On this Occasion, Prof. Atiqur Rahman, Chief Proctor, Dr. Irshad Husain, Chief Medical Officer,  Sheikh Safiullah, Hony. Finance Officer, Prof. Tasneem Meenai, Hony. Coordinator, NCC, Prof. Sanjay Singh, Chairman, Organizing Committee NZ Basketball Championship and other Presidents of games, students and staff attended the event.

    The programme concluded with the vote of thanks to the Chief Guest and other officials by the Director, Games & Sports.

    A total of 64 teams participated in the championship.
