Year ago a new Freedom Fighter Fountain was opened at Tikona Park very close to Jamia Millia Islamia Metro Station. The fountain was at the centre of controversy as some Okhla Congress leaders had alleged that photos of the MLA and Chief Minister Arvind Kjeriwal were put above freedom fighters’ photos. Also, a Congress leader had blackened the face of Kejriwal in protest.

The one in Shaheen Bagh also ran into controversy as some BJP leaders turned up at the spot to protest. However, AAP Councillor Khan had turned up on time and the issue was resolved. The date of inauguration of the fountain is yet not known.

Besides the two fountains in Okhla another Wall of Honur is coming up in Sarita Vihar carrying names of martyrs from the locality. BJP leader Manish Choudhary told the OT that the Wall of Honour will be built soon and local residents have sent the names of martyrs.
