Through the initiative, the SDMC said it has been promoting the principle of 3Rs i.e. refuse, reuse and recycle as beautiful artworks have been made from old tyres, bottles, unused items at this park.

Eco Mitra Park has been developed at Zero Cost to SDMC.

The civic agency has aimed to make people aware and encouraged about waste segregation, home composting, use of cloth bags for shopping and use of recycled products. On the occasion, local area Councillor Neetu Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner Madhukant and senior officials from SDMC were present.

In Najafgarh Zone’s Sadh Nagar, Om Vihar, Manglapuri, Chhawla Extension, Kapashera, Durga Park and Shivpuri, massive awareness cum sensitisation programmes were organised with focus on segregation of waste at source, cleanliness of public places, say no to Single Use Plastic (SUP), etc. A similar campaign was also organised in Mahavir Enclave Market where shopkeepers were asked not to use SUP at their shops, it said.

“Shopkeepers and area residents, who participated in the programme, assured to ban use of plastic bags and to keep their surroundings clean. In West Zone’s Vishnu Garden, a special programme was organised to segregate wet and dry waste at source level and complete ban on use of single use plastic,” it said.
