56% say stray or pet dog attacks common in their area: Survey; what about Okhla?

The mauling of a seven-month-old baby in Noida by a stray dog on Tuesday has intensified debate about the growing problem. In Okhla too stray dogs are found and residents from time to time have reported of dog bites.
It is only the latest incident to hit the headlines.

In 2015 five stray dogs had mauled 6-year-old boy to death in Jamia Nagar. Following the incident then, the issue was talked about many stray dogs were rounded up but the situation continues to be like that, said residents, adding that the area sees dog bite cases.

According to a survey by LocalCircles it has been found that 56 per cent respondents say attack by stray dogs are common in their area while 31 per cent say attack by pet dogs are common.

“Only 1 in 10 respondents credit their local municipal corporation for effective handling stray and pet dog management,” the survey found.

LocalCircles founder Sachin Taparia said the survey received over 31,000 responses from citizens located in 303 districts of India. About 10,000 respondents of the survey are from Delhi NCR including Noida and Gurugram, he said.
