Officials said they are closely monitoring the situation, and all concerned agencies remain on alert. On Saturday, drone cameras captured the overflowing Yamuna, revealing large sections along its banks under severe flooding.

In Okhla’s Dhobi Ghat and Batla House periphery, several homes are still affected. Residents were shifted to a relief camp in a Jogabai school. They will stay there until conditions become safe. Wakeel Qureshi said sewer water backed up and flooded some houses. Authorities moved around 200 residents as a precaution.

Activist Sagheer Abbasi confirmed the situation is stable. But power supply remains cut due to water entering homes and huts. Residents will wait a few more days before returning.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility supplying electricity to a populace of around 9 million in North Delhi, has started phased restoration of electricity supply in the flood affected areas, following the receding of Yamuna River water levels.

As a precautionary measure, electricity supply was earlier shut down after informing all stakeholders due to rising water levels and flooding in low-lying areas, to ensure the safety of consumers and prevent any untoward incident.

As water levels begin to subside, we have initiated the phased restoration of electricity supply. This process is being undertaken strictly after securing all requisite permissions from relevant authorities and completing comprehensive safety assessments, thereby guaranteeing that power restoration is conducted without any risk of incidents.

Tata Power-DDL’s field personnel have been diligently operating on the frontlines to protect the network infrastructure and ensure the safety of our consumers, while maintaining continuous vigilance over the evolving circumstances.

Speaking on the development, a Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said: “Consumer safety is our highest priority. While restoration has begun in a phased manner, electricity is being re-energised only after proper inspections and safety clearances. We thank our consumers for their patience, cooperation, and support during this challenging period.”

We commend the relentless commitment of our frontline workforce, who are tirelessly working round the clock to re-establish normalcy with unwavering attention to safety as our highest priority.

The discom has also urged consumers to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during the ongoing restoration:

Switch off the main power supply if water enters your premises.

Do not touch electrical appliances, wires, or switches with wet hands, feet, or surroundings.

Avoid metallic gates, fences, and electricity poles that may carry current during waterlogging.

Consumers are advised to immediately contact the Tata Power-DDL Helpline 19124 in case of any electricity-related emergency, it said.
