A new Chief Proctor has been appointed by Jamia Millia Islamia. In an official notice, the university said: “The Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, in terms of provision of University Ordinance, is pleased to appoint
Professor Mohammad Asad Malik, Faculty of Law, JMI, as Chief Proctor, JMI, in addition to his own duties in the Faculty with immediate effect till further orders.”

“The Vice Chancellor extends gratitude to Professor Naved Jamal for dedication and contribution to his duties as Chief Proctor, JMI, during his tenure,” reads the official notice.
With over 20 years of experience in teaching and research, Malik was Deputy Chief Proctor in the current team headed by Naved Jamal.
He holds a PhD in Law from Jamia and specialises in Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure. Professor Malik has published extensively in national and international journals and has presented at numerous academic forums.
He has taught a wide range of legal subjects and delivered lectures to civil servants, military officers, legal professionals, and students across India.
After completing his PhD (Law), from Jamia in 2010, he joined the university as Associate Professor and since then has served the university playing key roles in university administration, including Deputy Proctor, Director of the Counselling Centre, and member of the Academic Council.
He did his BA, from MJP Rohilkhand University at Bareilly, in 1995.
Jamia Middle School conducts Orientation Programme
In other development on the campus, the Orientation Programme for the newly enrolled Class 1 students at Jamia Middle School of Jamia was held with great enthusiasm and warmth on April 30 at the Multipurpose Hall of Jamia Senior Secondary School.
This significant event marked the beginning of the academic journey for some of the youngest members of the Jamia community, serving as an introduction to the values, practices, and nurturing environment of the institution, said the university.
The programme began with a warm welcome address by the Cultural Coordinator Naghma Afroz Abbasi, who set the tone of the event by expressing heartfelt greetings to the Guests, headmistress, teachers, students and their families.
She highlighted the importance of a smooth transition into school life and emphasised how the school remains committed to supporting young learners and their parents. The hall was beautifully decorated to welcome the children and their guardians, and each family was greeted with a thoughtfully designed welcome card as a token of appreciation.
Following the welcome address, the Headmistress of Jamia Middle School Nusrat Jahan addressed the gathering with her insightful words.
She emphasised the critical importance of understanding the psychological needs of young children, especially at the start of formal schooling.
She discussed how early childhood experiences shape lifelong learning and development, and reassured parents of the school’s child-centric approach. Drawing from her vast experience in education, the Headmistress explained the school’s commitment to fostering emotional, social and intellectual growth in a secure and loving environment.
A key highlight of the orientation was the presence of the esteemed guest, Dr Khizra Shibli, a renowned counselling psychologist and an alumnus of Jamia.
Dr Shibli has a distinguished career in child development and special education. She addressed the parents on essential topics such as managing separation anxiety in young children, building resilience, and nurturing healthy emotional behaviours. Dr Shibli talked about the importance of open communication between parents and teachers and encouraged a collaborative approach to support children’s overall development.
Distinguished guest Dr Aeram Khan, Associate Professor at Department of Teacher Training and Non Formal Education, Jamia added further depth to the event.
She emphasised the significance of early childhood education and the crucial role institutions such as Jamia Middle School have in influencing the nation’s future. The Principal of Jamia Senior Secondary School was also in attendance at the event.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, extended by the cultural coordinator.
