    Barn owl rescued in Okhla

Recently, a Barn owl was found inside the premises of a residential building in Sarita Vihar and it was rescued.

After residents spotted a Barn owl perched on their front door, they immediately informed the Wildlife SOS team. The NGO’s Rapid Response Unit rushed to the bird’s aid and it took them less than 15 minutes to safely extricate the bird.

After being kept under observation for a few hours, the owl was released once declared fit by the veterinarian. Since owls are nocturnal birds, it probably must have faced difficulty navigating its way during broad daylight and got stranded.

In another incident, Wildlife SOS rescued an injured Shikra bird that had taken up shelter in the balcony of a house in Kalkaji Extension. A Black kite was also rescued from the parking lot of Kaushambi Metro Station.

The Wildlife SOS team has received several such rescue calls for birds, mostly involving pigeons and kites.

Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO, Wildlife SOS, said: “We receive a lot of rescue calls with regards to birds in the Delhi-NCR regions. In fact, in the past two months, the number of bird rescues by our team outnumber those of any other animal. We have an extremely skilled and patient team who understand the difficulty of any distressed animal and are fully capable of such operations.”

Wasim Akram, Deputy Director – Special Projects, Wildlife SOS, said: “We are thankful to the citizens for reaching out to us in time and helping us in achieving our objective of maintaining peaceful co-existence between humans and wildlife.”

The Wildlife SOS rescue helpline works round-the-clock to save distressed animals across Delhi NCR. In the month of December, the NGO rescued over 60 birds.

In January alone, Wildlife SOS received nearly 40 calls regarding the rescue of birds on its 24-hour helpline (+91 98719 63535) after they were spotted in various human settlements.
